Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mr. Willy Bett on March 3, 2017, challenged farmers to register themselves with Cooperative societies in order to ease distribution of government subsidized farm inputs to them. “Dealing with farmers through cooperatives will not only ease distribution of farm inputs to them but also eliminate unscrupulous middlemen who exploited them”, the CS said during a meet-farmers tour of Kenya’s food basket of North Rift.
Mr. Bett said the North Rift Region had already received 1,577,550 50-kg bags of Government subsidized fertilizer in time for the coming March/April planting season. Farmers access the Government-subsidized fertilizer at Sh. 1,800 per 50-kg bag. The same retails in the open market at Sh. 3,300.
