Fertilizer arrives in time for planting season

Agriculture CS Willy Bett  flags off fertilizer for transportation up-country afer receiving it at the Port of MombasaThe Government has imported 150,000 metric tons of fertilizer in readiness for the next planting season of March-April which will be sold to farmers at a subsidized price of Sh. 1,800 per 50 kg bag for planting fertilizer and Sh. 1,500 for that of top-dressing.77,000 metric tonnes of the fertilizer has already arrived at the port of Mombasa and was received by Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett on January 23, 2017 who later flagged it off for transportation upcountry and distribution to farmers through the National Cereals and Produce Board. The rest will arrive in February.

The CS said the subsidized fertilizer was meant for needy farmers who are already registered in the Ministry’s database. “The requisite vetting and due diligence will be done to ensure the fertilizer reaches only those eligible” Bett said.
