CS Willy Bett (3rd right) with 5 of the 7 members of the new AFA BoardThe Food and Agriculture Authority (AFA) now has a new Interim Management Committee which will run the affairs of the regulatory organization for one year up to November 7, 2017. The 7-man Committee which will exercise the full authority of a Board of Directors will be chaired by Mr. Raphael Lekoolol.

Inaugurating the Committee on December 9, 2016, Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Cabinet Secretary Mr. Willy Bett challenged the Committee Members to steer the Authority competently in the execution of various strategies aimed at improving governance and accountability of AFA.

Some of the challenges they need to address in the various agriculture sub-sectors include diminished primary production, high production costs, limited market access, international trade barriers and low uptake of technology.
