Kenya’s population is growing by 1 million annually hence the need to boost food production to ensure national food security, Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Cabinet Secretary Mr. Willy Bett says.

“Restructuring of production techniques through adoption of new technology, mechanization and irrigation was the only way to go order increase food production and lower the cost of production” said CS Bett.

The CS was addressing the 3rd. Lake Region Agribusiness Investment Summit in Busia. He said the Government was reviewing the national agriculture policy in order to address emerging issues in the sector such as the need to promote youth in agriculture.

Mr. Bett hailed the collaboration between the national and County Governments in developing the agricultural sector. “The national and County Governments are not in completion. They complement each other in growing the sector, they serve the same farmer”, he said.
