Kenya’s food security stable

Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett when he released the country's quarterly food security reportKenya’s overall food security situation is stable with 9.5 million 90-kg bags of maize available at Government food depots even as 41 million bags of maize is expected to be produced this year, Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett said when he released the country’s food security situation report on October 19, 2016.

Other available food stocks of food he said, were 1.2 million bags of beans, 2.3 million bags of wheat and about 1 million bags of rice. Maize harvesting for the long rains season is under way while rice harvesting in major irrigations schemes will begin in November.
