Yesterday, CS Mwangi Kiunjuri opened the Kitale National ASK Show in Trans Nzoia County, during which he toured exhibitions.
In his remarks, he said that the Ministry is promoting utilization of alternative food types and particularly drought-tolerant crops in the manufacture of food and feeds on the country to ease pressure on maize as human food and animal feed.
To cushion maize and potato farmers against climate risks and shocks, he added the Government has allocated Crop Insurance Program Kshs 371.5M.
He urged farmers to take an interest also in Livestock Insurance Programme.
He was joined by CAS Dr. Andrew Tuimur, PS Livestock Harry Kimtai, Deputy Governor Dr. Stanely Tarus, MP Wycliffe Wanyonyi, Trans Nzoia Agriculture CEC Mary Nzomo and other senior officers from the ministry.
