On 13th February 2020, the CAS Ministry of Agriculture Ms.Anne Nyaga paid a courtesy call to FAO Deputy Director General Mr. Thomas Laurent at FAO Headquarters Rome.

On 13th February 2020, the CAS Ministry of Agriculture Ms.Anne Nyaga paid a courtesy call to FAO Deputy Director General Mr. Thomas Laurent at FAO Headquarters Rome. The subject of discussion was the Appointment of a FAO Representative in Kenya, partnership in rolling out the Ministry Youth Strategy and placement of young Kenyans in Internship and Junior Professional positions in FAO. The FAO Representative position in Kenya has been vacant since October 2019. CAS emphasized the importance of FAO to urgently identify and appoint an appropriate candidate in the caliber of a Director with proven knowledge, expertise, experience, in policy, leadership, management and resource mobilization. Be able to engage at equal levels with Government officials and other development partners to deliver on the FAO Country Programming towards attainment of the SDGs and the Big Four Agenda. CAS also requested FAO to support rolling out of the Ministry Youth Strategy. Furthermore, FAO to engage young Kenyans as Interns and Junior Professionals at the FAO Country office, Regional, Sub-Regional and Headquarters. Mr. Laurent informed that FAO will look into implementing the requests of Kenya. He also informed that most of the issues to be discussed in FAO Regional conference for Africa, 23-27 March 2020 in Zimbabwe include youth, digitalization of Agriculture and the Hand in Hand initiative. It’s therefore important for Kenya to have High level representation in the conference.
