The PS officially opens the First GLOBAG.A.P conference at Karlo, Loresho.

Yesterday the PS officially opened the First GLOBAG.A.P conference at Karlo, Loresho with the theme “adding value to your Agribusiness with the lead Int Worldwide standard for food safety and sustainability”. The PS in his address urged universities, Non-Governmental Organisations, and the private sector to jointly develop with the Ministry capacity building programs on good agricultural practices and food safety to enable smallholder farmers and Agri SMEs achieve food safety for access to local and international markets. He said the Agricultural Sector Transformation and Growth strategy will target small scale farmers through the provision of inputs and capacity building to scale up production and increase their incomes. GLOBAL.A.P is one of the most widely used on-farm food safety systems worldwide in the fresh food supply chain.

PS Harry Kimtai signs a launch partnership agreement between the National Government, FAO and 7 County Governments in mitigating drought.

PS Harry Kimtai today signed a launch partnership agreement between the National Government, FAO and the County Governments of West Pokot, Marsabit, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River and Turkana in mitigating drought. These are FAO intervention project areas for mitigation and most affected livestock dependent areas. The value for the six emergency projects is Ksh.49,033,007 for mitigating severe dryness and Ksh.82,568,000 for protecting livestock assets and safeguarding livelihoods in Kenya’s ASALS.

PS Kimtai also flagged off Livestock feeds to the affected counties. He said that the Government is in great support of the intervention by FAO and requested the county representatives who were present at the signing and flagging off of feeds to implement the projects perfectly.

The PS SDL, Harry Kimtai has today morning at his Kilimo Office handed over excellence awards to five senior officers who demonstrated quality service delivery. The awards, which the PS handed over on behalf of the President, are meant to motivate and contribute to overall public service efficiency and effectiveness. Two of the awards were medals of Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) and three medals of Head of State Commendation.

CAS Dr.Andrew Tuimor arrived at the Whitesands Sarova Mombasa yesterday to officially open the 8th African Grain Trade Summit (AGTS) which is a flagship platform for driving policy changes for the Grain sector in Africa.

The summit convenes high-Level delegations of policymakers, grain industry, business leaders, industry experts and development partners from across Africa and beyond for pertinent matters in grain trade and inform strategic directions of the Grain sector in Africa.

After officially launching the Kenya standards for Hermetic storage technologies which have been gazetted in Kenya for implementation in an effort to address post-harvest losses, he presented a copy to Mr.Gerald Masila the Executive Director East African Grain council and other stakeholders.

On Wednesday CS Mwangi Kiunjuri welcomed H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta as he opened the Nairobi ASK Show at Jamhuri Grounds.

In keeping with the Show theme “Promoting Innovation and Technology Agriculture and Trade”, CS Kiunjuri noted that the agriculture sector at both levels of government continues to make interventions that are taking innovative technologies closer to the farmers and upcoming industrialists.

The 2019 show has attracted 400 local and 100 international exhibitors from across the world including Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Zambia, Malawi, South Sudan, Botswana, South Africa, India, Japan, India, China, Indonesia France, Turkey, Belgium, Netherlands, USA among others.
