CS Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri said today that the Government has paid Sh. 9.4b for maize deliveried to NCPB from October 16, 2017 todate. He told a Press Conference that out of this, Sh 7b was paid before he assumed office as CS Agriculture. He said 152 people were being investigated on the maize payments to determine whether they were paid legitimately or not. “I’ve already furnished the relevant arms of government with the info they required for investigation but am so frustrated they have taken too long to complete the investigation. I have finished my part” the CS said.

Government to promote dairy goat farming

Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri said on October 12 that the Government through the Ministry, will promote dairy goat farming as goat milk was highly nutritious and therefore recommended for consumption by especially young children and the elderly.

He spoke when he launched the Sh. 100 million Dairy Goat Artificial Insemination (AI) Centre at Ndomba, Kirinyaga County which has been developed by the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre (KAGRC).

CAS Dr. Andrew Tuimur led Kenyans in marking the World Food Day

CAS Dr. Andrew Tuimur today led Kenyans in marking the World Food Day, which was celebrated at the KARLO farm, Njoro, Nakuru County. He said it was possible to attain zero hunger if Kenyans applied the right crop husbandry, harvested and used rain water for irrigation and embraced innovation. He said about 1.3 million Kenyans were food insecure and depended on the government for food relief. 820 million people in the world are good insecure, he said.

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and the Miraa Development Implemetation Committee Meeting at Meru County this Morning

The team is in Meru to implement the Miraa Task Force recommendations.

Committee rules out free money for dishing out to Miraa farmers. The task force Chairman Kello Harsama said contrary to claims that farmers will be given part of the 1 billion for free,the funds are meant for specific programmes and each shilling should be accounted for.

The funds were allocated to help uplift the sector after a report recommended that the crop faces serious challenges following a ban in major European markets.

CAS Dr. Andrew Tuimur briefs the media on the forthcoming World Food Day which is held worldwide on October 16. Kenya’s celebrations will be marked at KARLO, Nakuru County. He is accompanied by World Food Program Kenya Country Director Ms Annalisa Conte and FAO-Kenya Country Director Dr. Gabriel Rugalema. Dr. Tuimur said about 800 million people in the world are affected by food insecurity. 25 million are affected by food insecurity in Kenya, he said.

He was launching the Dairy Goat artificial insemination (AI) centre at AHITI Ndomba in Kirinyaga County where he also distributed AI kits to representatives of all county governments. He was accompanied by PSs Hamadi Boga, (Agriculture Research) and Harry Kimtai) Livestock) and Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Mr. Ndambiri.
