The Chief Administrative Secretary officiated at the 1st African Bovine Reproduction Workshop & Seminar

Today the Chief Administrative Secretary officiated at the 1st African Bovine Reproduction Workshop & Seminar hosted by ADC at their brand new Semen Production centre, Suam Rd, Kitale. He was accompanied by Prof Segor PS Irrigation and Harry Kimtai PS Livestock. The team also visited the nearby Namandala ADC where they witnessed training in the latest ultra sound embryo transfer techniques.

September 2018 Crop Conditions bulletin

 

SUMMARY

Favorable maize yields were realized for the long rains in most parts of the Country. Extremely wet conditions resulted  in reduction in yields in most parts of the country resulting in an increase in the prices of beans in major markets compared to  a normal period. Wheat production was favorable in most of the growing areas although heavy rains resulted in late planting and a reduction in planted acreage.Land preparation for the short rains is ongoing while in some areas, the early planted crop in western region is at weeding stage. Delayed onset of the short rains affected planting especially in the Western Region.Wholesale prices of maize and wheat  continued to decline due to the above average production in most parts of the country.

The CAS today officiated the international Coffee Day celebrations in Kirinyaga county

The CAS today officiated the international Coffee Day celebrations in Kirinyaga county. He was received by the Deputy governor  of Kirinyaga Mr. Ndambiri. In his  speech he noted that Kirinyaga maintained the lead in coffee production in the last three against 31 other producing counties. He thanked county government for the great contribution. The CAS said that coffee sector has contributed significantly to the economy, over Kshs. 500 billion to the GDP in the past two decades and job creation to many households.

CAS attending the 63rd Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa

CAS attending the 63rd Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa (DLCO- EA) held at Enashipai Hotel Naivasha. In attendance were Cabinet Ministers from member countries: Djibouti, Eritrea,  Somalia South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya where he represented the CS.
Part of the resolutions in this meeting where that the member countries resolved to address the challenges facing food security and provide measures to control the migratory/ trans-boundary pests to include fall army warm. They agreed that consulted efforts is key in order to manage the menace.
The ministers later visited Oserian flower farm farm where they appreciated pests control management by the farm.
They later visited the Olkaria Geothermal power station.

CS Mwangi Kiunjuri official opening of the Meru County Dairy Farmers Field Day

CS Mwangi Kiunjuri addresses farmers at Gitoro Stadium, Meru, when he officially opened the Meru County Dairy Farmers Field Day. He asked farmers to group themselves into cooperatives and farmer groups in order to benefit from Government programs and subsidies. He also put on notice unscrupulous traders who hawked adulterated milk or sold inferior animal feeds.
